AFUO creates Defence Sub-committee to drive community military aid campaign
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) has created a Defence Sub-committee to drive the community’s military aid campaign, which will include raising and providing funds for military aid to be delivered to the front line in Ukraine.
Initial priorities will include supporting community members’ military aid requests for family and friends currently fighting on the front line. $100,000 has been allocated from the AFUO’s U-Help fund to finance this initiative.
The sub-committee consists of 8 defence & industry experts, supported by a panel of advisers. This followed a call out for expressions of interest from community members and supporters in late March 2023. The sub-committee will be chaired by Ms Kateryna Argyrou, AFUO Co-Chair.
We are extremely grateful for the strong response and support we received. The calibre and diverse skill-set of the candidates who expressed interest in joining the AFUO’s newly formed Defence Sub-committee was impressive, said Ms Argyrou.
Other priorities for the Defence Sub-committee will include researching, reviewing and developing proposals for the AFUO Board and providing advice on supply chains to Ukraine and fundraising. The Defence Sub-committee charter may be found here.
Due to the strong response to the expressions of interest, the AFUO has also decided to form a broader Defence Working Group to support the AFUO’s military aid initiatives, consisting of an additional 12 members.
